Another casting change for Broadway’s Shrek: Robb Sapp (Wicked’s Boq) to temporarily step in for John Tartaglia
Another major change is in store for Broadway’s Shrek the Musical: Robb Sapp (Wicked) will step into the role of Pinocchio in Shrek tomorrow, August 18, replacing John Tartaglia during his leave of absence. Tartaglia, who created the role, will return to the production on December 15.
Producers for Shrek the Musical just announced that Ben Crawford (Les Miserables), the current standby for Brian d’Arcy James, will take over the title role on November 10. James will be departing the musical on November 8 to star in Time Stands Still.

And tomorrow, August 13, the cast of Avenue Q will appear on “Good Day New York” with a performance of “The More You Ruv Someone” (WNYW, Channel 5, from 7-10 AM ET) and on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” with “The Internet is for Porn” (NBC at 12:35 AM ET.)
Last week, Shrek saw the biggest gain of any Broadway show, with gross up $182,798! Maybe you think (like many in the industry have) that theirs was one of the worst presentations at the Tony Awards (watch the video here), but with numbers like that, you have to give them due credit – they know how to appeal to their audience.
The show stars Brian d’Arcy James (Outer Critic’s Circle winner), Sutton Foster (Outer Critic’s Circle winner), John Tartaglia, Daniel Breaker (Drama Desk Award winner) and Christopher Sieber, and has won awards for Costume Design (Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critic’s Circle) and Set Design (Drama Desk, Outer Critic’s Circle).
