Little Mermaid to Close on Broadway August 30

This week brings another sad closing announcement: Disney’s The Little Mermaid will close at Broadway’s Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on August 30.

The musical, composed by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman and directed by Francesco Zambello, will have played 50 previews and 685 performances upon closing.

Thomas Schumacher, producer and president of Disney Theatrical Productions said they “are closing the Broadway production to concentrate on the long future life of this title—beginning with next year’s national tour and upcoming international productions.”

The tour is set to begin in the fall of 2010. No venues, casting or dates have yet been announced.

The Tour Cast of Disney’s The Little Mermaid will includes Alli Mauzey as Ariel, Rachel York as Ursula , Jacob Ming-Trent as King Triton, Andy Karl as Prince Eric, Derrick Williams as Sebastian, Shavar McIntosh/Jake Evan Schwencke as Flounder, William Youmans as Scuttle, Noah Weisberg as Flotsam, Christian White as Jetsam, David Garrison as Grimsby, Tim Martin Gleason as Chef Louis & Sara Gettelfinger as Carlotta.

The ensemble comprises Aaron J. Albano, Barry Anderson, Paul Canaan, Haley Carlucci, Nikki Renee Daniels, Stephanie Fittro, Adam Fleming, Sara Gettelfinger, Tim Martin Gleason, Autumn Guzzardi, Rod Harrelson, John Hill, Van Hughes, LaKisha Jones, Li Jun Li, Ashley Moniz, Billy Murphy, Lindsey Ridgeway, Niki Scalera, Josh Strickland, Emma Zaks.
