The Pulitzer Prize for Drama for 2020 has been awarded to the wonderful new musical, A Strange Loop by Michael R. Jackson – a metafictional musical that tracks the creative process of an artist transforming issues of identity, race, and sexuality that once pushed him to the margins of the cultural mainstream into a meditation on universal human fears and insecurities.

We at Broadway Musical Home are so excited to see another musical take home the Pulitzer (only nine have ever won it before), and this is the first non-Broadway musical to be honored with the prize. Congratulations to Michael R. Jackson on a well-deserved win!

Runners up for this year’s prize were Heroes of the Fourth Turning, by Will Arbery (another Playwrights Horizons project that received high praise) and Soft Power, by David Henry Hwang and Jeanine Tesori (the 11 time Drama Desk nominated production and off Broadway favorite of the season).
