The next batch of nominees is in…and this year’s Outer Critic Circle Award nominated Broadway musicals include:
- & Juliet (6 nominations)
- A Beautiful Noise (1 nomination)
- Into the Woods (2 nominations)
- New York, New York (12 nominations)
- Parade (4 nominations)
- Shucked (7 nominations)
- Some Like It Hot (10 nominations)
- Sweeney Todd (3 nominations)
(Plus Merrily We Roll Along, which is being celebrated for it’s Off-Broadway run in this set of nominations, but is transferring to Broadway next year, so worth a mention here.)
You’ll notice gendered performance categories are missing from this year’s awards, with On- and Off-Broadway distinctions, which is an exciting change from years past. It’s also a much more select group of Broadway musicals, with snubs for 1776, Dancin’, and Camelot, which the Drama League Awards recognized. Almost Famous, KPOP, and Bad Cinderella continue to be nomination-free this season. (Only new elements were considered for Kimberly Akimbo, which took home four awards in its Off Broadway run last year.)
Winners will be announced (and posted to the blog here) on May 16, 2023 with a glitzy ceremony following on May 25, 2023.
